City Reviews & Questions

City Review
Key Words: Green Valley AVA, Suisun Valley Wineries, Rockville Stone Chapel

Green Valley is an unincorporated community in Solano County, just outside Fairfield and not far from Napa Valley. It is a rural wine-and-farm district rather than a town, with no center of its own and Interstate 80 a few minutes away. Visitors and residents tend to think of it together with its neighbor to the north. Suisun Valley is that neighbor, and the two valleys share a wine identity that is easy-going next to Napa. Day trippers come from the Bay Area and Sacramento, yet the roads stay quieter than the ones in Napa. Green Valley has its own American Viticultural Area, and its cool evening air off the bay is part of the pitch. Tasting rooms keep regular hours, with Wooden Valley Winery, whose roots go back to the end of Prohibition, and Caymus-Suisun both pouring daily from 10 to 5. Visit Fairfield counts six tasting rooms that stay open every day of the week. Beyond the cellars, the nearest public open land is Rockville Hills Regional Park, a preserve of more than 600 acres with oak hills, a lake and miles of trails. La Barista Espresso pulls shots in Suisun Valley for anyone touring the wine road. Housing here is rural. Homes are single-family houses on large parcels scattered across about eight square miles, with vineyards and grassland between them, and the hills nearby catch an evening bay breeze. Schools come through the Fairfield-Suisun Unified district. Day to day, Fairfield is the supply town and Interstate 80 is the way out. From there the freeway reaches the rest of the Bay Area and Sacramento, so the wider region stays within reach. That convenience has a counterweight. The roads are winding two-lane routes without a bus or a corner store, so even small errands become trips, and Green Valley asks its residents to plan accordingly.
