Baldwin Stocker is the quiet residential pocket of southwest Arcadia around the Baldwin Avenue and Duarte Road area, named for the elementary school and small park at its center. It sits just south of the city's busiest food corridor, close enough to walk for dinner but set back on residential streets. Housing is established single-family, mostly mid-century houses with a growing share of contemporary rebuilds. Lawns are kept up, and the older one-story ranch homes on generous lots sit next to newer two-story houses that fill more of the parcel. It's a neighborhood of steady, gradual change more than big new developments. Moffett's Family Restaurant and Chicken Pie Shoppe on South Baldwin is known across the valley for its chicken pies, a comfort-food institution that predates most of the boba shops around it. Little Provence Cafe, a family-run spot at 1326 South Baldwin, serves pizzas, sandwiches, pastries and coffee from Provencal family recipes and stays open through lunch. Baldwin Stocker Park gives the neighborhood a small green for a playground and a stroll, and the bigger fields are a short drive away at Arcadia County Park. Westfield Santa Anita and the racetrack are a few minutes north on Baldwin Avenue. Errands are close. Aldi sits on South Baldwin, and 99 Ranch Market on South Golden West Avenue in neighboring West Arcadia covers Asian groceries, produce and a food court. Most people still drive, since the blocks are long and the main roads are wide, and the 210 Freeway is reachable via Baldwin Avenue. The tradeoff is the traffic spilling off Baldwin and Duarte. Plaza parking lots fill on weekends, and the side streets near the corridor absorb some of that overflow. A few blocks in, though, Baldwin Stocker settles back into its own pace, and the chicken pie counter at Moffett's stays the easiest dinner decision in Arcadia.
