Ben Ali is a small North Sacramento neighborhood named for the old Ben Ali racetrack that once stood in the area, set near the Auburn Boulevard corridor northeast of downtown. The housing is largely older and modest, a mix of early-to-mid-century homes that reflects North Sacramento's long history as one of the city's original streetcar-era suburbs. It is close to the Arden and Del Paso areas and has straightforward freeway access, but it is also a neighborhood that has weathered the same disinvestment that affected much of North Sacramento, so upkeep and conditions vary. Everyday retail leans on Auburn Boulevard and the surrounding arterials. The draw is affordability and a central-north position; the honest caveat is that this is an in-transition part of the city where the block you pick matters.
