Brookside sits out on Sacramento's far eastern edge, in the belt near Rosemont and Mather where the city quietly dissolves into Rancho Cordova. The housing skews later and more suburban than the central grid, laid out along curving streets and cul-de-sacs that were clearly designed around the car from the start. Highway 50 is the spine of daily life here. It puts downtown to the west and Folsom to the east within an easy drive each, and the everyday shopping is strung along the nearby arterials rather than any walkable core. The overall feel is calm and unflashy, and the value is in newer-feeling homes at an affordable eastern-suburb price. The tradeoff is plain and it is distance. You are a real drive from the central-city restaurants and the kind of walkability those neighborhoods offer, and life out here is firmly drive-everywhere. For someone who would rather have a newer house and a quick freeway on-ramp than a Midtown stroll, that math works. For anyone who wants to walk to dinner, Brookside will feel a long way from the action.
