This boundary is the Sacramento State campus rather than a conventional residential neighborhood, the university grounds tucked into a bend of the American River east of downtown. It is one of the greenest spots in the city: a renowned campus arboretum, redwood groves, and direct frontage on the American River Parkway, crossed by the Guy West Bridge, a pedestrian suspension span that echoes the Golden Gate. Tens of thousands of students fill it during the school year, and on-campus and edge housing serves them, but most residential life happens in the surrounding College Town and River Park neighborhoods. For those areas, the university is the anchor: jobs, events, sports, the Hornet stadium, and parkway access all sit right here. As somewhere to live, it is a campus first, with the calendar and crowds that implies.
