Countryside is a quiet suburban pocket on Sacramento's far eastern edge, out near the Rancho Cordova line where the city gives way to later-built subdivisions. The housing here is mostly later 20th-century single-family on curving streets, the car-designed layout typical of the eastern suburbs rather than the older central grid. Highway 50 anchors daily life, putting downtown to the west and Folsom to the east within an easy drive, and the everyday shopping sits along the nearby arterials and in the Rancho Cordova centers. It is calm and unflashy, with the appeal sitting in newer-feeling homes at an affordable eastern-suburb price. The honest tradeoff is distance from the central-city restaurants and walkability; this is firmly drive-everywhere territory at the edge of the city.
