Del Paso Park is a regional park rather than a neighborhood, a large public open space spread across the ground northeast of downtown. It wraps around the Haggin Oaks golf complex near the Auburn Boulevard and Watt Avenue corridors, and its footprint runs to golf, sports fields, open space, and the trail and recreation amenities that make it one of the bigger green assets on this side of the city. Nobody lives inside the boundary, so its worth is measured by what the surrounding North Sacramento and Arden neighborhoods pull from it: golf rounds, ballfields, and room to walk. The honest note is one it shares with several of Sacramento's large open spaces. Conditions and upkeep vary across such a big property, and the access is recreation-oriented rather than woven into any neighborhood fabric, so this is a destination you drive to rather than a green edge you live along. As an address it is parkland and fairways and nothing more. As an amenity, though, it anchors organized recreation for a wide swath of the northeast side, which is its real and lasting role.
