Downtown Marina is the compact grid where Reservation Road meets Del Monte Boulevard, and it is the part of the city of Marina that works most like a town center. At under a third of a square mile, it is wrapped on most sides by Central Marina, with The Dunes to the south. Housing here is a mix of smaller detached houses, duplexes and low-rise multifamily buildings, set up with front doors facing the street rather than big lots. The city has been planning to fill in the downtown blocks over time, so some stretches still feel unfinished next to others that are fully built out. Breakfast and coffee are the strength. Coffee Mia Brew Bar and Cafe at 250 East Reservation Road is known for egg volcanos, crisp paninis and quick service, and Tico's Breakfast and Lunch, also on Reservation Road, is the sit-down morning option with French toast as its calling card. Marina Donuts and Bagels covers the early grab-and-go crowd. For lunch or dinner the choices are mostly casual and varied, from Mexican grills to Korean barbecue and pho. Lucky Supermarkets is the main grocery here, and the Asian Filipino Market fills in for a different set of shelves. The Marina Branch Library sits in the same part of town, so a single parking spot can cover several errands. Del Monte Boulevard and Reservation Road are both through routes for the whole city, which keeps traffic steady through the day. Green space is the gap. Downtown Marina has no park of its own, so the nearest options are a few hundred yards outside the edge. Locke-Paddon Park, with its vernal ponds and floating boardwalk, lies just over the line, and Vince DiMaggio Park and the Marina Skatepark are in Central Marina too. The beach takes a short drive west. Downtown is still assembling itself, and what is already here is the useful part. Come Sunday, the farmers' market at Marina Village Shopping Center sits just beyond the edge, and the whole stretch fills with people running errands.
