Emery Park opened as a subdivision on the western edge of Alhambra in 1922, on land that had been part of Alfred Dolge's old manufacturing town, and nearly a century later its 1920s houses still stand almost entirely intact. For anyone who likes period architecture, few parts of the San Gabriel Valley hold together this well. The homes are the draw. Spanish Colonial Revival and Pueblo Revival houses with stucco walls and tile roofs sit beside Storybook cottages with steep rooflines and curved eaves, plus Tudor Revival and English Cottage designs, and a handful of Midcentury Modern homes filled in later lots. Emery Park itself, the neighborhood's namesake green space at 2700 Mimosa St, gives the tract its own park for dog walks and weekend pickup games, and the quiet residential streets make easy loops for an evening walk. Longer outings usually mean driving east to Almansor Park. West Main Street is the local dining strip. For coffee people drive a few minutes to Main Street downtown, though LAMILL Coffee runs its roasting headquarters on Westminster Avenue inside the neighborhood. Groceries mean a short drive to Albertsons on West Commonwealth Avenue or the Aldi on West Main in neighboring Dolgeville. Most errands are by car, and Fremont Avenue gives a fast route south to the 10 freeway. The tradeoff is how few walkable cafes and shops sit within the tract itself, since the streets are almost all residential. That same quiet is what keeps the 1920s streetscape of Emery Park reading as one piece, down to the tile roofs and arched front doors.
