Before the Second World War, Florin shipped Tokay grapes and strawberries out by the railcar, most grown by Japanese American farm families who built one of California's largest rural Japantowns here. That history still stands in unincorporated Florin, south of Sacramento, CA, where the 1921 Buddhist Church complex and the Old Florin Town district along Florin Road survived the 1942 removals that emptied the community. Today Florin is a working suburb spread across big blocks between Florin Road, Gerber Road, and the Power Inn and Stockton Boulevard corridors. Ranch houses from the 1950s through the 1980s sit on generous lots, a few still half rural with sheds and horse fencing. Most addresses feed Elk Grove Unified, including Florin High School, and Southgate Recreation and Park District runs Florin Creek Park, where soccer fields and a pond double as a flood control basin. Be realistic about the corridors: strip centers on Florin Road show their age, industrial uses press in near Power Inn, and county maintenance can lag city standards on sidewalks and lighting. Traffic stacks up heading to the Highway 99 ramps. The draw is space and price, with some of the region's most attainable single family lots.
