Greenhaven is the larger planned community that shares the Pocket area's bend in the Sacramento River south of Land Park, and it is one of the more distinctive suburban environments in the city. Built largely in the 1970s and 1980s, it is organized around landscaped streets, interior greenbelts, and a network of man-made lagoons and waterways, with Garcia Bend Park giving direct river and boat access. The feel is calm, green, and self-contained, with shopping in neighborhood centers along the Pocket and Greenhaven roads rather than a walkable Main Street. The tradeoffs are real: it is car-dependent, and the single-entry geography of the Pocket-Greenhaven area can make getting in and out feel roundabout at peak times. For buyers who want a quiet, water-laced suburban neighborhood close to the river but still inside the city, Greenhaven is a standout.
