The hill in question is a gentle rise you could miss at bicycle speed, but Lemon Hill the neighborhood is easy to define: a dense square and a half mile of unincorporated Sacramento County between Franklin and Stockton boulevards, just south of the Sacramento, CA city line. More than fourteen thousand people live here, among the highest densities anywhere in the county's unincorporated territory. Daily life runs along 47th Avenue and Lemon Hill Avenue, with the Stockton Boulevard corridor's pho shops, taquerias, and international groceries at the eastern edge and light rail at the 47th Avenue station over on the Franklin side. Housing is mostly postwar cottages, duplexes, and small apartment courts, roughly six in ten of them rented, and Elder Creek Elementary sits just east along Lemon Hill Avenue. The honest ledger: dedicated park space inside the neighborhood is scarce, with the Fruitridge Community and Aquatic Center a mile north carrying the recreation load, county services stretch thinner than the city's next door, and blocks of the avenues need reinvestment. Prices, though, rank among the region's lowest for detached homes this close to the medical center corridor and downtown jobs.
