Meadowview is a large, established neighborhood in south Sacramento, one of the area's major working-class communities, anchored by the busy Meadowview light rail station on the Blue Line. The housing is largely postwar single-family on a sprawling grid, affordable by Sacramento standards, with several parks and schools woven through. The light rail is a genuine asset, putting downtown within a direct ride, and the Meadowview Road and Mack Road corridors carry the everyday retail. The honest picture is well known locally: Meadowview has carried long-running challenges with crime and disinvestment, and conditions vary considerably block to block, which the data on the page reflects. There has also been real community investment and organizing here over the years. The appeal is affordability, space, and transit access; the reality is a neighborhood still working through long-standing issues.
