The Pocket is one of Sacramento's most distinctive neighborhoods, named for the deep pocket-shaped bend of the Sacramento River that wraps it on three sides south of Land Park. Built largely in the 1970s and 1980s, it pairs with Greenhaven to form a calm, green, water-laced suburban environment of curving streets, interior greenbelts, and homes that range from comfortable tract houses to larger riverfront properties. Garcia Bend Park gives direct river and boat-launch access, and the levee-top paths are a real draw for walking and riding. Shopping sits in neighborhood centers along the Pocket and Greenhaven roads rather than a walkable Main Street. The famous tradeoff is the geography itself: the Pocket has limited ways in and out, so getting to and from the rest of the city can feel roundabout at peak times. For buyers who want quiet, the river, and a self-contained feel inside the city, the Pocket is a perennial favorite.
