Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Ridgetop vistas, Trailhead doorstep, Secluded mountain estates

Sanborn / Bohlman climbs straight into the Santa Cruz Mountain foothills above downtown Saratoga. One?lane ribbons such as Bohlman, Norton and Kittridge wind through redwood and live-oak forest, passing a handful of vineyard parcels, hilltop ranch houses and glass-walled contemporary retreats perched on steep slopes. Lots are measured in acres rather than square feet, and many homes sit well below or above road grade, hidden by dense trees and framed by long valley panoramas. Daily errands are nowhere in sight, but outdoor options begin at the driveway. Switchbacks rise directly into Sanborn County Park and El Sereno Open Space Preserve, linking residents to miles of Bay Area Ridge Trail routes, shaded creek canyons and the Skyline Boulevard ridge. The northeastern corner touches Villa Montalvo’s hiking paths and the historic Hakone Estate & Gardens, making cultural outings as easy as trail runs. Aside from those landmarks the area is purely residential; groceries, coffee and schools require a 10- to 15-minute descent into Saratoga village, and winter storms or summertime fire closures can temporarily slow travel altogether. The mood is remote and self-reliant. Neighbors value quiet nights, wildlife sightings and starry skies over convenience, and many properties rely on private wells, propane tanks or backup generators. Expect limited street lighting, spotty cell reception and mandatory defensible-space landscaping, balanced by unrivaled privacy and sunrise-to-sunset views that sweep across Silicon Valley.
