South Land Park is the established mid-century neighborhood that extends south from William Land Park toward the river and the Pocket. It built out largely in the postwar decades, and the housing reflects it: handsome ranch and some architect-designed mid-century homes on comfortable, often larger lots, including the South Land Park Hills pocket prized for its modern designs. It carries much of the Land Park appeal, mature trees, quiet streets, and proximity to the park, the zoo, and the Freeport corridor, at a more attainable price than the marquee Land Park blocks to the north. It is car-oriented, with shopping on Freeport Boulevard and the neighborhood centers rather than a walkable Main Street. The honest tradeoff is that it is firmly suburban in feel despite the central-south location. For buyers who want mid-century character and space near Land Park and the river, South Land Park is a strong, slightly-under-the-radar option.
