Valley Hi / North Laguna is a large neighborhood in far south Sacramento, a sprawling area of mostly 1960s-through-1980s subdivisions anchored by Cosumnes River College and the Mack Road and Center Parkway corridors. The housing is largely single-family on a suburban grid, affordable by Sacramento standards, with a number of parks woven through and the Blue Line light rail extension giving the area genuine transit access toward downtown. The college, the Valley Hi library, and the regional retail along Mack Road and the former Florin Mall area are all close. The honest picture includes the things any large south-county neighborhood carries: heavy arterial traffic, conditions that vary across such a big area, and a firmly car-oriented layout away from the transit stops. The appeal is space, affordability, the college, and light rail access. It is one of the more transit-connected affordable areas at the south end of the city.
