Vineyard is Escondido's working west side, the wedge between SR-78 and West Valley Parkway that runs from I-15 out to the San Marcos line. Despite the name, its landmarks are a hospital, a brewery and blocks of business parks, with homes filling in around them. A large share of the land is employment. Palomar Medical Center, which opened on Citracado Parkway in 2012, is the anchor, and light industrial buildings line Enterprise Street, Andreasen Drive and Mission Road. The residential streets mix newer tract homes on cul-de-sacs, townhome communities with shared pools and playgrounds, and some older houses rebuilt in a California modern style. Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens is the big draw, a castle-like restaurant on Citracado with a one-acre beer garden, about 32 taps, windows looking into the brewhouse and a signature Bavarian pretzel. Home Sweet Home Cafe on Enterprise Street opens at 5 a.m. for breakfast, with biscuits and gravy as the signature. Backyard Brewery, a small taproom on Micro Place, pours a short, steady list of scaled-up homebrew recipes, and Sabre Springs Winery & Meadery on Mission Road has poured meads since 2024. For espresso, Culture Craft Coffee sits just south inside the Lexus building on Auto Park Way. Parks inside Vineyard are scarce, so people head out. Trails at Del Dios Highlands County Preserve begin just south of the neighborhood line, and the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, with 784 acres and about 11 miles of trails, is off Harmony Grove Road to the southwest. Montiel Park in San Marcos sits along the northwest boundary. Albertsons anchors the shopping center on West Valley Parkway near the freeway, with fast-casual chains around it. The Sprinter stops at Nordahl Road on the way to Oceanside and the Escondido Transit Center, and both I-15 and SR-78 frame the neighborhood. Weekday traffic is heavy. Shift changes at the hospital, delivery trucks and brewery visitors all share Citracado and Mission Road, and the business parks go empty and quiet after hours. Living in Vineyard means sharing your streets with a hospital and a brewery, and the nearest patio may well be a beer garden built for a crowd.
