West Palmdale is where the city's craft beer scene lives, with two breweries a short drive apart on the streets around the Antelope Valley Freeway. Homes here are mostly single-family tract houses on the residential blocks, with apartments and small offices closer to the main roads and none of the master-planned polish of the foothill communities. Palmdale Boulevard and 10th Street West carry most of the traffic, and the residential blocks sit just off them. Los Originales Bar and Grill serves Mexican plates, Fresh Mediterranean Cafe and Gino's Italian Restaurant sit a few doors apart, and Tom's Burgers is the quick counter stop. Boss Jay's Filipino Store stocks groceries from the islands, and 5th Street Bistro sits on 5th Street West. Generations Coffee on 10th Street West is the independent coffee shop. For outdoor time, Manzanita Heights Park on Mesa Verde Avenue is the neighborhood's park, and High Desert Sports Zone on 3rd Street East handles indoor sports. The bigger green spaces, like Marie Kerr Park, are a few minutes' drive away in Rancho Vista. Daily life is convenient by car. The Antelope Valley Mall, Trader Joe's and Sprouts are a short hop south in the Marie Kerr area, and the freeway on-ramps are close for the commute toward Santa Clarita and Los Angeles. Parks are thin inside the neighborhood itself, which is the clear tradeoff against the newer subdivisions. Transplants keeps its taproom open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, which makes it the late-night living room for this side of town.
