Neighborhood Factors
Market Conditions
Camino Tassajara is a community at the east end of Danville, in the hills of central Contra Costa, where the I-680 suburban corridor runs out and the Tassajara Valley begins. Mount Diablo sits to the north, and Blackhawk is the closest neighbor. The one-room Tassajara school, built in 1889 on Finley Road, still stands as a reminder of the valley's ranching days. The main road is the spine of the community, linking Danville with the valley to the east, and a middle school marks the point where Danville proper ends. Subdivisions along the road give way to ranchland quickly. Today a local history group looks after the building, third graders visit on field trips, and no other nineteenth century school in the valley survives. The Tassajara Parks project, approved by the supervisors in 2021, pairs 125 new homes on roughly 30 acres east of Blackhawk with permanent open space, so the edge of town is still being drawn. Homes along the road are mostly suburban subdivisions, with the hills in view past the last cul-de-sacs, and the parcels farther east grow larger and more rural. Open land is the draw. Mount Diablo State Park, Morgan Territory and Round Valley regional preserves all lie within reach, and the Tassajara Parks deal hands another 727 acres to the regional park district. Eating and shopping happen elsewhere. There is no commercial center here, so most people head into downtown Danville or San Ramon for coffee, dinner and groceries. Getting around is by car on Camino Tassajara, which leads west into Danville and east toward the valley. Transit is limited. The main tradeoff is dependence on that single road and the distance to services. The valley's quiet is partly a product of that remoteness. This is where Danville's lawns end and the grass hills take over.
