Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Retro Row, Vintage Shops, Walkable Strip

The 4th Street Corridor is better known to locals as Retro Row, the stretch of East 4th Street lined with vintage clothing shops, record stores, antique dealers, and the restored 1924 Art Theatre, the city's last single-screen cinema. It is one of the most genuinely walkable shopping strips in Long Beach, and it sets the tone for the blocks around it. Step off 4th onto the side streets and you find modest early-1900s bungalows and small apartment courts from the streetcar era. The corridor runs narrow and long, so the energy concentrates right on 4th while the residential pockets stay quiet. The tradeoff is space: lots are small and parking on the busy retail blocks is tight, so you trade a yard for being able to walk to coffee, tacos, and a thrift-store haul. For buyers who want personality over square footage, this is one of the city's most characterful addresses.
