Alexander is a quiet residential pocket of East San Jose just north of the Alum Rock Avenue corridor, anchored by the neighborhood's Goss campus. It is flat, older single-family fabric on calm interior streets, an affordable, central part of the city that sits close to the cultural energy of Little Portugal and the Alum Rock retail without being right on top of it. A future BART station is planned about a mile to the southwest, which could eventually improve connections. The housing is modest and of its era, and the appeal here is a reasonable price and a central position rather than any standout landmark. The honest tradeoffs are the busy Alum Rock corridor to the south, the older housing stock, and a streetscape that is practical rather than scenic. For a buyer who wants a settled, affordable East Side street a short hop from downtown and the freeways, Alexander is easy to overlook and sensible to consider, especially if the coming transit improvements pan out.
