Boyd is one of those small Pleasant Hill pockets most people drive past without registering, which is exactly why the people who live here like it. It is a compact, low-key residential neighborhood centered on Boyd Road, with a mix of older traditional houses and a few newer, contemporary builds on quiet streets that do not carry through-traffic. It sits close to the I-680 corridor, and Pleasant Hill BART is about a mile off, so the commute math is better than the sleepy feel suggests. What you are really buying here is calm. This is one of the most settled, well-kept corners of the city, and it tends to stay that way. The tradeoff is that there is almost nothing to walk to inside the neighborhood itself, so coffee, groceries, and dinner mean getting in the car and heading to the Contra Costa Boulevard shops or the downtown district. If you want a quiet block with an easy freeway and BART connection, and you do not need shops at the end of the driveway, Boyd delivers that without much drama.
