Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Broadway Nightlife, Walkable Corridor, Vintage Courts

The Broadway Corridor runs along East Broadway through the heart of the city's historic LGBTQ community, a dense, walkable band of central Long Beach a few blocks up from the ocean. It is best known for its concentration of bars, restaurants, and small businesses, many of them long-running and gay-owned, that have made this one of the most established and welcoming nightlife strips in the city. The residential fabric around it is a 1920s mix of courtyard apartments, bungalow courts, and small condos, on flat, gridded streets that are easy to walk and bike. The beach at Alamitos is a short stroll south. The tradeoffs are the familiar ones for an urban corridor: this is a renter-heavy, higher-density area, parking is tight, and quiet comes in pockets rather than blanket. For walkable, affordable, energetic living near the water, the Broadway Corridor has a character all its own.
