Carson Harbor is ranked #9 of 18 neighborhoods in Carson with an overall score of 3.0/5. Its standout factors are nearby merchants (3.5/5) and safety (3.5/5, 9th of 18 in Carson). The trade-offs are public spaces (2.8/5) and curb appeal (2.9/5).
Carson Harbor Village, a manufactured home community of more than 400 spaces on Avalon Boulevard, gives the Carson Harbor neighborhood of Carson its name and much of its character. The park opened in 1978 with multisection homes under peaked roofs, a pool and a clubhouse, and Colony Cove, another large community, faces it from across the boulevard. Housing here is a mix of those manufactured homes and nearby blocks of midcentury single-family houses. In the manufactured home community, residents typically own the home and pay rent on the space, which is a different setup from a standard house purchase and worth understanding before shopping here. Food and coffee are close. The Albertoni Street center has a Starbucks, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and Fatburger. Up on Avalon, El Pescador Bar and Grill is the sit-down seafood option, El Burro Tacos and Beer serves tacos and cold beer, and Sweet Valentine Bakery and Da Vinci Ice Cream share the same plaza. For open space, Carson Harbor leans on its neighbors. The Carson Harbor Village pool is for its own residents, and Stevenson Park on Lysander Drive is the closest city park, a few minutes away. Just up Avalon in Colony Cove is the Martin Luther King Jr. branch library. The Albertoni shops are walkable from much of the neighborhood, which helps on a weeknight when you just need coffee or a quick plate lunch. For a bigger shopping trip, the mall and its surrounding stores cover most needs in one stop. The tradeoff is that Avalon Boulevard carries heavy traffic, especially on Galaxy game days when crowds head to Dignity Health Sports Park a short way south. Step off the boulevard into the park, though, and the lanes turn narrow and slow, with the clubhouse pool as the shared backyard.
