Dixon sits on the flat farmland of Solano County, and its downtown runs along A Street, where the places to sit down are only a few doors apart. Rosemary's Farm-To-Fork cooks from Solano County produce, and Dawson's Bar & Grill is where the farmers gather early for breakfast. Cattlemens handles the steak dinners, and Solano Baking Company, in the Dixon Plaza center on Pitt School Road, handles the bread. Houses run from older, modest places close to downtown to newer subdivisions spreading toward the town's edges. Streets are flat and laid out simply, and the fairgrounds, high school and city hall all cluster on the southeast side, so the town is easy to learn. Most days, a school run, a park visit and a downtown lunch fit inside the same few streets. Hall Park is the big green space, roughly 49 acres in the southeast corner beside the fairgrounds. It holds the Pat Granucci Aquatics Center, a skate park, a dog park, disc golf, tennis courts, ball fields and an amphitheater. Northwest Park, at West H and North Lincoln Streets, is the quieter one, with a walking loop around its soccer fields, shade trees and a covered picnic area. Patwin Park and Conejo Park add smaller neighborhood lawns, and park gates are open from 5 a.m. To 11 p.m. Groceries come from the Safeway on Stratford Avenue and a Grocery Outlet, so a week of errands rarely leaves town. The freeway and Route 113 both pass close to town, which puts Davis close by and Sacramento within commuting range. Getting anywhere beyond town is a drive, and public transit is thin. Work and bigger shopping trips usually mean leaving town, so a car is part of the routine. In return, Dixon keeps a place where the farm calendar still sets the mood, with the fair crowds in spring and the sheep festival in fall.
