Golden Triangle, San Jose, CA

The Golden Triangle is the economic engine room of North San Jose, the tech and industrial business-park district roughly bounded by US-101, Interstate 880 and Highway 237. It is the dense heart of the north-side employment corridor: office and R&D campuses, industrial buildings and big-box retail spread across large parcels, with VTA light rail running the First Street and Tasman corridor. Homes in the Golden Triangle sit in scattered pockets between the campuses. City plans have long marked North San Jose for new housing alongside new jobs, so the mix keeps shifting as residential projects replace older business-park land. River Oaks Park is the neighborhood's real green space, a crescent of lawn along River Oaks Parkway on the site of a former Sony plant, an easy walk from the River Oaks light rail station. The land once belonged to the Okuba family, Japanese American farmers who came back to reclaim it after World War II. Nearby, the Guadalupe River Trail follows the river past the airport and north to Alviso, carrying bike commuters on weekdays and walkers on weekends. Lunch spots cluster along First Street and Tasman. SAJJ on North First Street builds Mediterranean bowls and wraps around falafel or shawarma, and Faz on East Tasman Drive does kabob combos and lamb shank, open weekdays only. Morning coffee here mostly means the Starbucks on River Oaks Place. Daily life leans on light rail and the freeways, and most errands start with a short drive. VTA trains run the First Street and Tasman corridors, and the nearest full grocery is Sprouts on East Brokaw Road, with a deli and a sushi counter. The one real amenity is transit and job proximity. For someone whose priority is living as close as possible to the north-side tech campuses with light rail at hand, it serves that narrow purpose. For traditional neighborhood living, it is not the place, and its name describes an economic zone more than a community.
