Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Cherry-Atlantic Pocket, Modest Ranches, Northside Quiet

Hamilton is a residential neighborhood in North Long Beach, named like several of its neighbors for the local school at its center, in this case Hamilton Middle School. It sits between Atlantic and Cherry Avenues in the upper part of the city, a flat grid of modest postwar homes and apartments that grew out of the area's mid-century expansion. The neighborhood is quiet and car-oriented, with shopping and services along the bordering avenues and easy reach to the 91 and 710 freeways. It is among the more affordable parts of Long Beach, and the housing stock reflects that, with upkeep that ranges block to block. There is no commercial or park center inside the lines, so residents rely on nearby Houghton Park and the Atlantic corridor. For buyers focused on getting an affordable house with space and central-Northside access, Hamilton is a no-frills, practical option.
