Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Eastside Pocket, Seventh Street, Quiet Grid

Hellman is a small residential neighborhood on the Eastside of Long Beach, a compact grid set just off Seventh Street and named, like many of its neighbors, for the local school. It is a quiet, primarily residential pocket of older bungalows and small apartment buildings, tucked between the busier commercial corridors of Seventh Street and Anaheim. The location is its strength: Recreation Park and its golf course are a short drive east, the Fourth Street and Belmont Heights shopping districts are close, and the beach is well within reach. Seventh Street carries the through-traffic and the everyday errands, while the interior blocks stay calm. The housing is older and modest, and there is no park inside the boundary itself. For buyers who want an affordable, central-Eastside address with quick access to the park and the coast, Hellman is an easy-to-miss but well-placed option.
