Lake Manor, also known as Chatsworth Lake Manor, is a small canyon enclave tucked into the boulder-covered Simi Hills west of Chatsworth. Valley Circle Boulevard bends away from the city grid here, and the streets begin climbing toward Woolsey Canyon. The setting feels more like a mountain edge than a Valley suburb. Housing is varied and shaped by the terrain. Hillside homes sit on irregular lots along Lake Manor Drive and neighboring streets, while the Summit mobile home community occupies higher ground along Woolsey Canyon Road. Rock formations, views and steep access matter more than a consistent architectural style. The surrounding hills provide the main recreation. Chatsworth Park South, Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park and Stoney Point offer hiking, horseback riding and bouldering through dramatic sandstone landscapes. Woolsey Canyon continues toward the former Santa Susana Field Laboratory, where cleanup remains underway and much of the land is expected to become open space. There is no local commercial center. Groceries, coffee and restaurants require a drive into Chatsworth or West Hills, and the nearest Metrolink and Amtrak station is in Chatsworth. The 118 freeway provides the most direct regional route. Wildfire is the central tradeoff. The Woolsey Fire began just up the canyon in 2018, and brush clearance, evacuation planning and insurance considerations are ongoing realities. The old reservoir basin below has remained dry for decades despite the Lake Manor name. Lake Manor suits residents who want hillside privacy, rock outcrops and trail access close to the Valley. Its ethos is rugged and tucked away, with open views and canyon quiet balanced against fire risk and car dependence.
