Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Los Altos Center, Planned Community, Postwar Ranch

Los Altos North is part of the large Los Altos planned community on the east side of Long Beach, one of the first master-planned neighborhoods in the country when Lloyd Whaley began developing it after World War II. The homes are postwar ranch houses and bungalows from the late 1940s through the 1960s, most updated over the decades, on flat, walkable residential streets. The neighborhood's great convenience is the Los Altos shopping center, a longtime retail hub now anchored by Target, Trader Joe's, Lazy Acres, and more, putting full-scale shopping within minutes. Cal State Long Beach, the 405, and the eastside parks are all close. This is a car-oriented suburban neighborhood at heart, though the proximity to the Los Altos Center makes everyday errands unusually easy for the area. For buyers who want a solid, well-located eastside home near major shopping and the university, Los Altos North is a dependable choice.
