Olive Drive is the narrow corridor wedged between the railroad tracks and Interstate 80 just south of downtown, and it is one of the most distinctly un-Davis parts of Davis. The housing is an eclectic mix of older homes, apartments, and small businesses strung along a street that dead-ends rather than connects, which gives it a slightly tucked-away, do-its-own-thing feel. The upside is location: you are a short walk or ride from downtown and the Amtrak depot, with quick freeway access for getting out of town. It draws people who want to be central without paying central-Davis prices. The honest downsides are real and worth naming. You are sandwiched between the train tracks and the freeway, so noise is constant, and the Richards Boulevard underpass nearby is locally famous as the worst traffic bottleneck in town. Olive Drive rewards people who value access and quirk over quiet.
