The Race Street area sits in the central-west part of San Jose near The Alameda and the Bascom corridor, an older walkable pocket of small homes, apartments, and commercial frontage on a flat grid. It is a central, lived-in neighborhood served by the VTA light rail, where the value comes from position and the bones of the established housing stock. Day to day, the grid and the light rail keep downtown, The Alameda, Diridon Station, and the freeway network within easy reach, and the walkable layout makes errands and transit genuinely accessible. Housing is older and modest, upkeep varies block to block, and the area carries some traffic and the rough edges of a central, in-between neighborhood, with limited green space inside the immediate boundary. For buyers who want an affordable, central, transit-friendly foothold near the middle of the city, it is a practical option.
