Ramona's day-to-day life happens along Main Street, where taco shops, pizza counters and a growing roster of wine tasting rooms share the same few blocks. The town sits in an inland valley of San Diego County, northeast of Poway, and away from Main Street the parcels get big fast. Homes reflect that spread. Much of the housing went up after 1970, with single-family streets close to the center and, beyond them, ranches, avocado and citrus groves and vineyards on larger acreage. Thoroughbred breeding has a long history in the valley, and horse property is a common sight on the outskirts. Outdoor time is often on a horse or a trail. Collier Park on E Street has eight shaded acres with picnic tables, playgrounds, pickleball and a community garden that opened in 2025. Barnett Ranch Preserve, off San Vicente Road, has a 2.5-mile loop through oak woodland and sage scrub that riders, runners and mountain bikers all share. Main Street's Old Town blocks hold most of the places people talk about. Main Street Coffee at 7th Street brews Cafe Moto beans and serves breakfast sandwiches on a shaded patio. Ramona Country Bakery bakes triple-fermented sourdough from organic flour, with quiche and pizza on the side. Smoking Cannon Brewery, entered from 8th Street, has poured small-batch beer since 2017, and its chili beer has a following. Marinade on Main does seasonal farm-to-table plates and weekend brunch on a dog-friendly patio. Errands stay on or near Main Street too. Stater Bros. and Aldi cover groceries, and the Ramona Community Library is on Main as well. Highways 67 and 78 meet in town and carry nearly all the traffic in and out, and there is no rail line, so most trips mean a drive. The drive is also the main cost. The run to the coast or a downtown office takes a real chunk of the day, and the valley's weather swings widely between cool nights and hot summer afternoons. Evenings here end with the sound of horses being fed somewhere down the road, and with the hills turning gold behind Main Street.
