The western half of the Santa Teresa foothills trades a little of the ridge-top view for a lot more convenience. The homes here still sit on the rising ground at the base of the hills, but they are closer to the Almaden Expressway and Highway 85, which puts shopping on Blossom Hill Road and a fast route across the valley within easy reach. It is late-1960s-and-newer single-family stock, well kept, with the county-park open space a bit farther up the slope than it is for the east side. The result is a quieter suburban feel that still lets you be on a freeway in a couple of minutes, which is the practical appeal. The honest tradeoffs are the expressway and Blossom Hill traffic that run along the edge and the grassland fire risk that comes with any foothill address. If the east foothills feel a touch remote for you, the west side is the more everyday version of the same setting, with the hills at your back and the arterials at your feet.
