Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Corridor Living, Arterial Edges, Valley Floor

Senter Monterey North is exactly what the name says: a residential corridor threaded between Senter Road on one side and the Monterey Highway on the other, in the flat working middle of south San Jose. It is post-war housing built for value, and its location is defined by those two busy arterials plus the older rail-and-industrial band that runs along the Monterey Highway. That gives it good, quick access up toward downtown and out to the freeways, at a price point well below the leafier neighborhoods. It is honest to say this is a utilitarian pocket rather than a scenic one: the corridor edges are workmanlike, the housing is modest, and the public realm is thin, though Kelley Park and its greenery sit a short way north. For a buyer whose priority is an affordable San Jose address with straight-shot routes in every direction, this corridor delivers that and not much pretense. It is a place to live in, not a place to tour.
