Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Civic Core, Solari Park, Dense Older Tract

Seven Trees is one of the older, tighter-knit working neighborhoods of south-central San Jose, and its southern blocks sit closest to the community's civic heart. The cluster of Solari Park, the Seven Trees community center and branch library, and the neighborhood elementary gives this area a real shared center, which counts for a lot in a part of the city built dense and modest. The housing is compact post-war tract stock on small lots, flat and walkable within itself, framed by Monterey Highway to the west and Senter Road to the east. It has long been a more affordable, higher-density corner of San Jose, and it wears that honestly rather than dressing it up. The tradeoffs are the ones that come with the territory: busy arterials, older homes, and a streetscape that is more practical than pretty. What it offers in return is a genuine neighborhood with its parks, school and library close enough to walk to, at a price the fancier parts of the city cannot touch.
