Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Wrigley South, Period Bungalows, River Path

South Wrigley is the lower half of the Wrigley district in central-west Long Beach, the part of the chewing-gum magnate's namesake neighborhood that sits south of Willow Street toward downtown. It shares Wrigley's appealing bones: modest Spanish Revival and Period Revival homes and bungalows from the 1920s and 1930s on flat, walkable streets, with the Pacific Avenue corridor providing markets, restaurants, and local businesses. The location is genuinely central, close to downtown, the 710, and the Los Angeles River bike path along the western edge. It is one of the more affordable older neighborhoods near the city center, with an engaged community and the block-to-block upkeep variation typical of central Long Beach. The honest tradeoffs are the freeway and river edges and proximity to busier corridors. For buyers who want vintage character and a central location at an attainable price, South Wrigley is a solid pick.
