Sunset Whitney wraps around the old Sunset Whitney Country Club in south Rocklin, and the story of that former golf course is the story of the neighborhood. The club closed and fell into disrepair, the city bought the land in 2017, and it is being remade in phases as the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area, with walking and biking trails, a central activity hub, and courts going in where fairways used to be. The homes ringing the old course are established, many dating to the era when the club was the draw, set on mature, tree-shaded streets off Midas Avenue. That maturity is the upside, and the age is the honest tradeoff: some of the stock is dated, and the recreation area itself is still mid-transformation, so parts remain a work in progress rather than a finished park. What you are buying into is a neighborhood watching a large piece of open space come back to life at its center. For anyone who values a big reclaimed green within walking distance over brand-new construction, Sunset Whitney is a distinctive bet in Rocklin.
