Victoria Park, Carson, CA

Victoria Park stretches across the southwest side of Carson, where a Porsche test track, a city park and a row of garden nurseries all share the map. The Porsche Experience Center on Main Street is the neighborhood's oddest landmark, and its Restaurant 917 serves brunch and lunch with a view of cars running the driver development track. Homes in Victoria Park are mainly midcentury single-family houses on regular grid blocks, with a lot of garage conversions, second stories and new facades added over decades. Figueroa Street on the west side is more commercial, with MB Landscaping and Nursery and Maria's Garden Center selling plants and yard supplies. Del Amo Park, a city park on Del Amo Boulevard, is the neighborhood's main outdoor space for ball games and playgrounds. The county-run park that shares the Victoria name, along with Victoria Golf Course, sits just north in University Heights. For coffee with a local story, Teofilo Coffee Company nearby on Carson Street sells Philippine beans like Barako and Excelsa. Groceries and big errands are easy. A Walmart Neighborhood Market sits on Avalon, and SouthBay Pavilion is right by the 405 at Avalon. Most trips are by car, and freeway on-ramps for the 405 and Harbor Freeway are close at hand. The streets in the middle of the neighborhood are residential and calm, and on a weekend morning the loudest sound might be a Porsche engine working through the test track a few blocks away. Few neighborhoods anywhere pair tract houses with a proving ground for sports cars.
