Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Shoreline Promenade, The Pike, Rainbow Harbor

Waterfront is the name Houseberry gives to the downtown shoreline of Long Beach, the band of harbor, marina, and attractions along the city's front porch. It is more a destination district than a conventional residential neighborhood, taking in Shoreline Village, the Pike Outlets with its vintage Ferris wheel and carousel, the downtown marina, the Aquarium of the Pacific, Rainbow Harbor, and the lawns and paths that line the water. The setting is the draw: ocean and skyline views, a continuous waterfront promenade, festivals and events, and walkable access to downtown's Pine Avenue dining just inland. Housing here is limited to waterfront condos and the edges of the downtown towers rather than a residential tract. The tradeoffs are the crowds, the parking, and the busyness of a visitor destination. For people who want to live at the center of the city's waterfront life, this is the most scenic and active stretch in Long Beach.
