West Evergreen is the flatter, more urban front edge of the Evergreen area, sitting on the valley floor between the Capitol Expressway and the Aborn and Silver Creek corridors. Silver Creek High School sits inside it, and its biggest practical advantage is access: the Eastridge mall and the Eastridge Transit Center, one of the East Side's main bus hubs, are right at the northern edge, with a light-rail extension to Eastridge under construction that will make this one of the better-connected east-side pockets. Lake Cunningham Regional Park, with Raging Waters and a big skate park, is close by too. The housing is older, valley-floor tract stock, more affordable than the foothill neighborhoods above it. The honest tradeoffs are the busy Capitol Expressway and mall-driven traffic on the edges, and a workaday streetscape rather than a scenic one. But for buyers who want Evergreen-area schools with real shopping and transit close at hand, at a gentler price than the hills, West Evergreen is a practical, well-connected choice.
