West Victoria, Carson, CA

Main Street in West Victoria has turned into Carson's craft drinking row. Phantom Carriage pours its own beer in a pub setting, and a short way up the street The Honest Abe Cider House and Meadery shares a building with SoCal Vibes Co., which keeps over 40 taps pouring and smokes its own meats in the kitchen. West Victoria sits on the west side of Carson, between Main Street, Figueroa Street and Victoria Street. Homes are mostly midcentury single-family houses, many one story, with remodels, second units and block walls added over time. Commercial and light industrial buildings line the bigger streets, while the interior blocks stay residential and noticeably quieter. The medical office campus is a daily hub. La Mousse Desserts on Broadway covers cakes and pastries, and Pronto's Burgers and Mexican Grill on Victoria Street is the quick lunch stop. Parks are a short drive rather than a walk. Victoria Park and Victoria Golf Course are just east in University Heights, and Del Amo Park is a few minutes south. Most errands are by car. The Harbor Freeway runs along the west side, the 405 is close by, and Avalon Boulevard has the big grocery stores. Groceries mean heading to Sprouts on University Drive or the markets on Avalon. Walking is realistic for the Main Street bars and the Figueroa coffee counters, less so for everything else. The tradeoff is freeway noise and industrial neighbors on the edges, which make some blocks louder than others. On a Friday night, though, living in West Victoria means your nearest cider house and brewery are a few blocks from home.
