Cavallo Road anchors one of Antioch's original neighborhoods, the flat grid in the north end between downtown Rivertown and the Wilbur Avenue corridor. The homes are among the oldest in the city, modest one-stories on compact lots from Antioch's first growth decades. Kimball Elementary serves the area, downtown and the marina are a few minutes west, and the riverfront sits just past Wilbur Avenue. The trade-offs are the ones that ride along with age. Housing stock here often needs work, and the north side carries a rougher reputation than the newer subdivisions south of Highway 4. Prices are honest about all of that, which is exactly why the area keeps pulling buyers who want a detached house at the lowest realistic entry point and are ready to bring sweat equity. The bones of an old river town are still here, along with front-row proximity to whatever downtown Rivertown turns into next. On Cavallo Road you are buying the block as much as the house, so walk it at a couple of different hours before you write the offer.
