Nortonville is barely a neighborhood in the usual sense, and that is precisely its appeal. This is Antioch's rural southwest, open hills rolling toward Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, carrying the name of the 1860s coal town founded by Noah Norton that once stood in these hills and emptied out when the mines played out. Today the area is ranchland, large parcels, and a scattering of homes with more sky than streetlights. The preserve is the defining amenity: roughly six thousand acres of trails, mining-era ruins, and spring wildflower ridges, reached from the Somersville Road entrance. Homes trade rarely out here, and when one does, what is really changing hands is acreage, privacy, and the horizon. Every errand is a drive, there are no corner stores, and fire season in grassland hills is a real consideration. For most buyers, that rules the area out on the spot. For the small group that wants land and quiet inside the city limits, nothing else in Antioch competes.
