Agate Bay, Carnelian Bay, CA

Agate Bay is the quiet residential bay wedged between busier neighbors, and it shares its name with the beach pebbles, agate being the sister stone to the carnelian that named Carnelian Bay next door. Most of the commercial life, the restaurants and the boat company, clusters just west at the Carnelian line, which leaves Agate Bay itself as mostly homes, small-to-mid lots and cabin and mid-century stock climbing the slope from the water. Its notable public spot sits right at the western edge: Patton Landing, also known as Waterman's Landing, a small pebbly beach that has become the lake's stand-up-paddling hub, with a coffeehouse to match. By mailing address it reads as Carnelian Bay, so treat it as a shared draw on the boundary rather than something tucked deep inside. The tradeoffs are modest and predictable. There is little commercial core of its own, so daily errands mean a short drive to Carnelian Bay or Kings Beach, Highway 28 runs the noisy lake-side edge, and paddling season crowds the parking at Patton. For a calmer, less-trafficked stretch of the north shore, that quiet is the whole selling point.
