Aspen sits in West Davis, the slice of town west of Highway 113 that locals only half-jokingly call 'Best Davis.' It is residential to the core, built around the Aspen Greenbelt, one of the shaded pedestrian and bike corridors that let you cross this side of town without ever fighting traffic. Day to day, this is a quiet, low-key part of Davis. The Westlake shopping center and its grocery store handle close-in errands, and the ride into campus runs along Russell Boulevard's Avenue of Trees, which is genuinely one of the nicer commutes in the city. Homes here are mostly older single-family stock with apartment clusters mixed along the edges. The tradeoff is distance. West Davis is the farthest residential wedge from downtown, so if you want to walk to G Street nightlife, this is not your spot. If you want a green, calm street with the greenbelt out the back, Aspen delivers.
