Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: Ancil Hoffman, Nature Center, Golf Course

The name promises a shopping district. The reality is the opposite. There are no rows of storefronts in Carmichael Town Center. What defines this corner instead sits along its southern edge: Ancil Hoffman Park, the 396-acre centerpiece of the American River Parkway, home to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center and a golf course Golf Digest has placed on its national list. Homes cluster on established, shaded streets like Tarshes Drive and Cherry Blossom Way, with the river and its trails essentially in the backyard. The tradeoff is that daily errands are not on the doorstep. The Fair Oaks Boulevard shops and the Milagro Centre sit a short drive west, not a walk, so this is a part of Carmichael you choose for the open space rather than the convenience. What comes with it is wildlife, oak woodland, and one of the better stretches of the parkway for a morning loop. Worth knowing: the park pulls weekend crowds, especially during events or a golf tournament, and the quiet streets absorb the overflow parking. For anyone who wants the American River Parkway as their front-yard amenity, this is about as close as Carmichael gets.
