Countrywood is a planned community of just under 300 townhomes spread across about 42 acres between Treat Boulevard and Bancroft Road, and its defining feature is how little you have to drive. The Countrywood Shopping Center sits right at the edge with a Safeway, McCaulou's, a pharmacy, and a row of cafes and bakeries, so groceries and coffee are a walk, not a trip. The townhomes themselves are uniform 1970s-era HOA stock, tidy and low-maintenance, with shared landscaping that keeps the complex looking consistent. It's an easy-living setup for people who'd rather not manage a yard and like having errands at the doorstep. The honest tradeoffs are real: the schools serving this pocket are among the weaker assignments in Walnut Creek, the architecture won't win anyone over, and Treat Boulevard is a busy arterial. But for walkable retail and a lower-maintenance footprint at a more reachable price than the city's single-family neighborhoods, Countrywood does a specific job well.
