Market Street is the old main street of Downtown Inglewood, and the K Line now stops a short walk away at Florence and La Brea. The neighborhood is the civic center of the city, with the public library on Manchester Boulevard and a mix of older storefronts, restaurants and small offices around it. Housing in Downtown Inglewood is a mix of older apartment buildings, small bungalows and stucco houses on the side streets, with newer apartment projects rising near the rail line. Most homes sit within walking distance of at least one busy commercial street. Food is the best reason to walk around. Little Belize, a family-run spot on East Nutwood Street, is known for oxtail stew, panades and fried plantains. Banadir Somali Restaurant on West Arbor Vitae Street serves goat, and its breakfast menu includes ful and anjero bread. Grevillea Art Park on East Kelso Street and Queen Park on East Queen Street are the small green spaces close to home. For real room to roam, Edward Vincent Jr. Park is nearby in North Inglewood. The Beckmen YOLA Center on South La Brea is the home base of the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles program. Groceries are easy here. Vons on East Manchester, Superior Grocers on North La Brea and El Super on South La Brea are all close by, so many errands can be done on foot or with a short drive. The train reaches the Crenshaw corridor and the airport connection without a car. La Brea and Manchester carry heavy traffic, and event nights at the stadium district to the south add more cars and parking limits. Step off the train at Florence and La Brea, though, and a coffee on La Brea or a plate of Belizean stew on Nutwood is only a few minutes away on foot.
